Labour pledge on animal snares
Scottish Labour regards its failed bid to ban animal snares as “unfinished business” and plans to return to the issue if elected in May.
Environment and rural affairs spokeswoman Sarah Boyack MSP made the pledge after the League Against Cruel Sports’ launched its election manifesto, calling for an end to animal cruelty.
Prospective Scottish election candidates have received copies of the manifesto, which focuses heavily on snaring.
Last week, a proposed Labour amendment to the Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill calling for a ban on snares was defeated by 74 votes to 50.
